Education

Education has always been a goal of mine.  I am the daughter of two educators, and therefore have been involved in education almost every day of my life.  I admit though that I haven't taken full advantage of it though.  Being a pathway student my idea of education has changed though.  I know see how spiritual and secular learning are connected.  If I approach my secular studies with prayer then I will be blessed with knowledge and understanding.  The things I choose to study should also be used to not only better my life, but further the work of the church, and provide service to others.  I am excited to tackle my education with a new understanding and appreciation.

1. "Students, if your values are in place, you will not hesitate to forego an elective class that may decorate your life in favor of instruction which can hold together the very foundation of it. Then, once enrolled, attend, study, and learn. Persuade your friends to do the same. You will never regret it; this I promise you."
Packer,Elder Robert D. "Agency and Control." General Conference April1983

2. " An educated person will be adaptable, because his or her skills and knowledge are the general kind that equip a person to live and lead in society, not just to perform a highly specific individual task."

Oaks, Dallin H. " The Formula for Success at BYU." BYU Devotional September 1979

3. " If you desire to obtain a good education, one that will increase your joy and enlarge your capacity to serve your family, your community, and your profession, seek learning for the sake of learning. Do not limit yourself to a grudging compliance with minimum requirements of attendance, assignments, and degrees. Pursue learning for the purpose implied in the motto of this University—'The Glory of God is Intelligence.'"

Oaks, Dallin H. " The Formula for Success at BYU." BYU Devotional September 1979

4. "First, educate your hands and your minds. You belong to a church which espouses education. To you young women may I suggest that you get all the education you can. Train yourselves to make a contribution to the society in which you will live. There is an essence of the divine in the improvement of the mind"

Hinckley, Gordon B. "Rise to the Stature of the Divine Within You." Ensign Nov. 1989

5. "When I was younger, I thought education meant going to school, taking tests, and getting good grades. But as I grew older, I began to learn the difference between doing well in school and becoming educated. A person can do well on tests and still not be educated. True education is learning how to learn. Once I discovered that lesson, learning became fun."

Bednar, David A. "The Glory of God Is Intelligence." Friend October 2007

6. "Each day we are made increasingly aware of the fact that life is more than science and mathematics, more than history and literature. There is need for another education, without which the substance of secular learning may lead only to destruction. I refer to the education of the heart, of the conscience, of the character, of the spirit—these indefinable aspects of our personalities which determine so certainly what we are and what we do in our relationships one with another."

Hinckley, Gordon B. "With All They Getting Get Understanding." Ensign August 1998

7. "Remember, you are interested in education, not just for mortal life but for eternal life. When you see that reality clearly with spiritual sight, you will put spiritual learning first and yet not slight the secular learning. In fact, you will work harder at your secular learning than you would without that spiritual vision."

Eyring, Henry B. " Education for Real Life." Ensign October 2002

8."The Lord knows both what He will need you to do and what you will need to know. He is kind and He is all-knowing. So you can with confidence expect that He has prepared opportunities for you to learn in preparation for the service you will give. You will not recognize those opportunities perfectly, as I did not. But when you put the spiritual things first in your life, you will be blessed to feel directed toward certain learning, and you will be motivated to work harder. You will recognize later that your power to serve was increased, and you will be grateful."

Eyring, Henry B. " Education for Real Life." Ensign October 2002

9. "“[Your chosen field] should be one which will challenge your intellect and which will make maximum utilization of your talents and your capabilities. Finally, it should be a field that will supply sufficient remuneration to provide adequately for your companion and your children. Now that’s a big order. But I bear testimony that these criteria are very important in choosing your life’s work.”

Monson, Thomas S. "Education is a Commandment." Church Website July 2013

10. "For members of the Church, education is not merely a good idea—it’s a commandment, members of the Church are instructed to learn “of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad” (D&C 88:79).Uchtdorf, Dieter F. "Education is a Commandment." Church Website July 2013
